FED: ACTU plans national day of protest

Trade unions will launch a national day of protest action in October in response to
the federal government's planned workplace reforms.

ACTU president SHARAN BURROW yesterday announced plans for the October the 25th protest
as tens of thousands of people rallied in Sydney Olympic Park to oppose changes to industrial
relations laws.

Ms BURROW did not reveal whether unions will call for industrial action to coincide
with the October demonstration, but predicted that it will be the biggest national protest
seen for years.

Yesterday's family picnic protest -- called the Last Weekend -- was organised by Unions
New South Wales to mark the final days before the HOWARD government takes control of the
Senate.
